The Parks and Recreation Department has installed the Pocket Perry Outdoor Warning System in several parks in Cedar Hill. Each device is designed to deliver real-time weather and lightning alerts. The system works in the following way:
When the horn sounds a solid tone and the strobe light is on, seek shelter.
When the horn sounds an intermittent tone and the strobe light is off, you may resume activity.

As an addition to the other recycling programs and sustainability initiatives the City of Cedar Hill currently has in place, the Parks and Recreation Department has installed 12 Big Belly Recycling Compactors at Valley Ridge Park. Each station is a solar powered container for recycling plastic bottles, clean paper products, and aluminum cans.
